Give an agent one bounded file-update path
Scope GitHub file updates to an explicit repository, branch and path prefix, then review the diff and provider commit evidence.
An agent that needs to update a status file does not necessarily need arbitrary repository write access. Define the repository, branch and path prefix in the action configuration, and keep the provider credential outside the agent process.
Anlyon's GitHub adapter updates one existing UTF-8 text file within its supported size limit. It normally refuses the default branch unless explicitly configured otherwise. This is a bounded file-update operation, not a general Git client, pull-request workflow or atomic multi-file deployment.
Select a reviewable target
Begin with a fixture branch and a small existing file. Restrict the path prefix to the directory the workflow needs. Configure approval if changes require review, and use an applicable resource-mutation limit to bound repeated updates within the chosen environment and scope.
| Configuration decision | What it protects |
|---|---|
| Explicit owner and repository | Avoids an implicit destination |
| Designated branch | Separates the intended change surface |
| Narrow path prefix | Limits which existing files the action targets |
| Reviewed diff | Makes the content change visible |
| Blob SHA precondition | Protects against a file changed after review |
Inspect the provider token's permissions separately. The action boundary does not revoke alternate uses of that token outside Anlyon.
Distinguish commit success from business success
A confirmed adapter result uses provider evidence of the commit carrying the effect identifier. It does not establish that tests passed, a deployment completed or the application behaved correctly. Model those as separate observations in your workflow.
If another writer changes the file after review, do not silently update the precondition and resend old content. Refresh the diff and obtain the appropriate decision.
Plan corrections
A mistaken file change can require a new reviewed update. Rolling back the action definition does not undo the existing commit. For unknown outcomes, matching the current file content is not enough to attribute the change to this operation.
Follow the first-action quickstart, adapter details and stale-file recovery. Use disposable targets while validating the workflow.
